Counsel

Helping the law and lawyers meet growing demand for social impact expertise.

Clarity. Comfort. Confidence.

This is what clients seek most from any attorney, adviser, or counselor of any kind.

And because…

Every individual and organization has impact,

…every individual and organization needs good counsel and great advisers to guide them as they seek to scale and sustain their impact.

Experience reveals patterns to make achieving extraordinary impact predictable, reliable, and most importantly, simple!

And nobody is doing this exciting work without their lawyers (and certainly shouldn’t be)!

That’s why I’m committed to helping others in and around the law better understand, use, and advise on the tools that create great impact. These proven, experience-based practices in the hands of more lawyers and throughout the law will help support social impact at scale in the lives, work, and the organizations we all serve.

Combining the best of cutting-edge public service education, global philanthropy experience, and corporate law practices, I work closely with the world’s leading visionaries - and increasingly, their attorneys - to develop the most effective and relevant social impact advice, guidance, and tools possible!

More Awe in the Law

I believe lawyer jokes are less funny when lawyer lives are more inspiring.

I also believe that every lawyer is a social impact lawyer and that the legal profession is facing an extraordinary opportunity to embrace, teach, and practice social impact law at scale, with incredible impact. The world needs lawyers steeped in social impact now more than ever.

That’s why I coach, counsel, and consult with law firms, lawyers, and law schools to enhance their approach to social impact law and to develop social impact courses and clinical practices.

It’s also why I teach a class in a new way, sparking an original course called  “Lawyers as Social Innovators” at Chicago-Kent College of Law. Crain’s Chicago Business called my class “one of the coolest classes for law students!” And it is cool, but not nearly as cool as what is possible when social impact scales in the legal profession and in the practices of every lawyer!
